Processing
The ore from the mine is first crushed by giant grinders into manageable pieces the size of a softball. After further crushing, it goes into a revolving cylinder, is mixed with water and tumbled with steel balls until it is a fine powder.

From the tumbler, it goes into mixing tanks where air jets and mechanical arms mix cyanide into what is now called "slime." The cyanide releases the gold from the rock.

Next the mixture is funneled into settling tanks to clarify the gold-cyanide solution which is then filtered. Zinc dust is added to the filtered solution to separate the cyanide from the gold which emerges as a powder.

The gold powder is melted with a borax flux which causes the impurities from the gold to float on the surface as slag.
The final result of all this processing is an alloy of approximately 90 per cent gold and 10 per cent silver which will be further processed to yield the 99.6 per cent pure gold for bullion.
